Jus' Drawin'

Yeah it is a drawing from Camberwell Green. This picture is in black and white though. Hardly worth the time huh?

New York New York

So I went to New York City a while ago. Finally I am uploading drawings I made there. Only two of them though. The rest don't really make sense unless you were there... As you can see I focused on only the most significant landmarks.

Sequential Narratives

Yeah I made some comics! They are very literary so I hope they are not too hard to read. They are actually very profound if you can understand them. Also I must say that I am sorry it took so long to get them up here. My internet died! Just as I was getting into the blogging groove! Unbelievable. Still, these bad boys were worth the wait, what?

Ready, Jet Set, Go!

Look! It is my version of the cover of 'Jet Set Willy'! What a classic game. And this cover is probably one of best game covers ever I think! So great.

James Pond Vs the Invaders from Space

Two video game themed drawings today! I thought I would put two up at once because they aren't very spectacular. James Pond is just classic but this drawing is terribly bland. I may well post something else later if I can find the time.

Sombre Wulf

Oh yes today's drawing is based on the classic ZX Spectrum game 'Sabre Wulf'! My memories of this game are pretty vague. I'm pretty sure all I ever did was wander about the jungle, completely lost and getting attacked by giant spiders until I transformed into a monster?

Again, this is taken from my sketchbook. I went on a bit of a nostalgic game drawing spree a while ago. Pretty pleased with this one though. My drawing uses rather more sombre colour scheme than the game used; hence the hilarious post title (yes explaining puns makes them much more funny actually).

VIDEO GAMES!

Yeah it's Claire Redfield. Claire Redfield is so cool and hardcore. This was taken from my sketchbook and coloured (so badly) on photoshop. I really really need to work on making my colours not be terrible but that is so hard work! Possibly I will practice this week with colouring in video game themed drawings (yes I have more video game drawings for you all). Or maybe I should give up and just leave everything in black and white? Please?

I just noticed I wrote this post like a 10 year old? UH OH/OH WELL

Drawings of people

This first drawing is of a friend, from a photo I took about a million years ago. It follows the last post's theme of 'drawings of people that I don't know why I did'. It is my favourite theme more or less. This other drawing was really small but I quite liked it so I thought I would put it up as well. The pencil and ink technique is one that I always think I should do more of but never do. I like how the roughness of the graphite works with the cleanliness of the ink. Maybe I should do more like this...

Who the hell is Nina Napier?

I drew a picture. It is from a photo of someone but I don't know who they are. I don't know why I drew it or why I decided it was worth posting but, hey, these things happen. Don't worry about it.

Oh My Days I Did It

Hello loyal followers. Guess who finally managed to get new pictures on his blog?? Yes it was Mr Maris! Took long enough huh?

Such A Terrible Schedule

Sorry for the lack of updates again people! For some reason it's not letting me upload images. What is going on? I don't know but when I figure it out I promise there will be beautiful new pictures to look at. Hopefully that will be soon!

Sorry I Disappeared

Apologies for the fairly enormous gap between posts. It is just too terrible. Anyway, I have new work for you all! Here is a little bit of it:

I was/am tempted to add colour to this but it hardly seems worth it for just a throwaway cartoon (albeit one that I am rather fond of).

Sketches! Again

Updating with some random times sketchbook pages. Not too much going on here. Starting a comic-focused project tomorrow though so should be some more interesting stuff up soon!

The Hunterian

The gap between this post and the last was unreasonably long. Sorry about that people! And this post isn't all that substantial, just sketches from an almost-recent trip to the Hunterian museum.

Friday 27 January 2012

AH!

All these drawings are just here for tutors to look at so don't worry anyone else!

Tuesday 24 January 2012

Deku Trees

I drew the great deku tree for some reason. I was trying to develop my use of black and white. I don't think it worked all that well so I added colour. That also didn't work so well! Really need to practice these things more. Might redo the colour one if I get the chance.

They were both done with no planning or references. Possibly this is the reason they don't work huh?

Doodle Time!

Today I am posting doodle filled sketchbook pages! Isn't that nice! Not that interesting visually but fun all the same I think?

Sunday 15 January 2012

Ex Libris

I designed this ex libris mostly to try out various digital techniques and colour separation things. It is tacky but I quite like it. Also shoes!

Museum of Childhood

On a similar note to yesterday, I have some sketches made on a trip! This time it was to the V&A Museum of Childhood. It was good once I got there, which took a while because I somehow managed to get myself lost. Oh well. In the end I made two basic conclusions. 1. Any museum that features both a boxed Buzz Lightyear and a Sega Megadrive has got my vote. 2. Toys that are older than that have a tendency to be outrageously creepy.

Yeah, so, two thumbs up from me.

Wednesday 11 January 2012

George Condo

Today I have a selection of sketches that I made on a visit to the Mental States exhibition at the Hayward Gallery. George Condo's work is all pretty crazy and also good. You should all check it out. Except it's actually finished now so just look at stuff online or something I guess?

Jus' Sketchbook Sketches

A couple drawings from my sketchbook. Trying to keep the updates coming daily. So far so good! Let's see how long I can keep it up!

The Colour Out Of Space

I got round to scanning my big comic! Good news huh? I would have posted the previous version but that was even bigger!

Yeah so, it's a comic strip based on HP Lovecraft's 'The Colour Out Of Space'. I took some liberties with the story but tried to keep it essentially the same story. Hopefully it works regardless of whether you've read the original.

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. It is one of the most ambitious comics I've done, largely down to the size. The structure is essentially just a whole bunch of short (5 panels or so) strips all squashed onto one page. The hard part was arranging them so that the order was clear but without the pace becoming monotonous. I think I managed okay?

Sketchbook

This is what it looks like when I am writing comics apparently.

Such gibberish.

Anyhow, this became my Lovecraft strip. I actually quite like the final comic but not sure how I can get it up here. I only have an A4 scanner but the comic is A1. Such a dilemma. Maybe I will have to skip it for now. Sorry everybody!

Lovecraft Books

These are pages taken from some booklets I made illustrating 'The Colour Out Of Space'. I was experimenting with format and with different perspectives of the story.

This first is from a book with a fixed viewpoint of the farm. The idea was to illustrate the story with a sort of detachment. Not focusing on characters but on the environment. In the end it didn't work and I stopped half way through. Still, this page is kind of nice?

This second is from a tall book. It was a funny format to work with but in the end it came out quite nice. It was all drawn in green ink, using a more varied approach to subject and composition than the other two.

This third book was drawn quickly and very small (It was about 4cm tall I think). I drew it after reading some Peanuts, clearly. I thought it would be interesting to illustrate the story from the perspective of the youngest child because his view would be in such contrast to the semi-scientific outlook of the narrator. This book was probably most important for the development of my final illustration (coming soon to a blog near you! (If I can ever will myself to scan it)).

Back In The Day

Oh yes so I finally have my computer connected to the internet. It is surely a wonderful thing. Sorry for that massive gap of nothingness. Hopefully I will update regularly from now on. I guess it is time to upload bits of work that I have accumulated over these few months.

These are some studies made from life in preparation for a project on HP Lovecraft's 'The Colour Out Of Space'. Pretty Standard.
