Colourful

These are just experiments with flat colour. I was thinking of printing my comic with colours like these using the Risograph but it was all booked up. I also remembered that I didn't know how to use it.

Anyway, I quite like the images. I think that I will use a similar thing for the accompanying poster/painting thing. Did I mention I'm having an accompanying poster/painting thing?

Developing Lolo

These pages are generally just trying to develop my Lolo drawings into a form more suitable for comics. The first two spreads show my various notes and whatnot. Is this nice to see or just ugly and messy? Who knows?

Then two single images. The first of which I don't really like at all. It was meant to be her looking in a mirror. Does this come across at all? It was meant to be kind of like a single panel gag comic but without a gag? Anyway, I won't dwell on it any longer. The final image is pretty much the final 'style'. I'm pretty happy with it. Now I just need to get her into some actual comics...

More Lolo

A couple more sketchbook paintings. For a while I was thinking of producing all my final images in a sort of minimalist kind of way. But I got bored of that. Anyway, these were just brief forays into that area. I quite like them but they're not really me. You know?

Lolo Ferrari?

Lolo Ferrari! This is who my current project is about. These are just some sketchbook images of her. Sort of pointless but sort of useful all the same. I'm pretty happy with how these ones came out.

I'm Still Alive Actually

I went home in April and had no access to a scanner. Thus the complete lack of work being put up here. Sorry about that everybody!

I'm back in London now though so I thought I'd start things back up with some sketches. These were made a couple of days ago at the May Day protest in Brighton. They are tiny and crude but I think they have a nice liveliness to them. They are basically unrelated to my coursework but I thought I would post them all the same. Basically just a blithe start to the new term.

Tomorrow I will begin adding work from my current project.

Inky Fun Times

Yeah, so I haven't updated in a while but that's okay because I am updating now! Just a couple drawings. One of which is a self portrait! How unusual! Oh well. Basically trying to work better with ink. It is pretty hard. Worth it though? I figure it is fairly essential to learn. Been looking at some stuff by Ronald Searle. He is quite amazing. This post is feeling kind of staccato. I will stop now.

Society Manifesto

Images taken from group project 'Manifesto'. These were printed onto rolls of paper, with perforations allowing you to tear off the individual images.

Me Me Me

Continuing my recent streak of self indulgence, I have yet another self portrait to upload! Can you even believe it? This was initially a pencil drawing from life but it was super rough. So, after far too long in photoshop, it came out like this. I still sort of feel that it isn't finished but I've wasted enough time on it already and have to stop somewhere. If you're curious, the pencil version is tucked away after the jump.

What's This? More Drawings??

Yeah, not too much going on here except drawings. The first is from a photo of a friend of mine. The others are self portraits. The kind of self portraits that come out when I forget how to draw. Maybe the best kind?

Bonus Strip!

After I finished my Profumo comics I found I had a spare layout. Thus we have this. Enjoy.

Comics Time

Here we have a short series of strips I created a while ago about John Profumo. I'm not too happy with how these turned out (especially the second one, eugh) but that's the way it goes. They're all hidden away after the jump.

Just Drawing

These are all simply drawings taken from my sketchbook. Not really relevant to anything but I think they came out fairly well. The guy on the left of the first page is probably my favourite of the bunch. I feel that for once I managed to combine dynamic mark making with a fair degree of accuracy. All drawn in graphite. From newspaper photos.

Colouring In

So, in the last post I claimed I would colour my little self portrait. A nice idea I think but the weird thing is that I actually followed through with it. Shocking stuff. Even more shocking is that I actually like how it turned out. Usually when I try to use colour it just ends up really bleh.

The process for this was pretty simple and not at all noteworthy. I just used the paintbrush tool. Pretty out there, hm? And choosing the colours involved a whole lot of jumping up to peek in the mirror for reference. Up and down and up and down, it was. Really quite exhausted by the end of it but there you go.

I was actually tempted to flip this after putting it onto the computer so that it would be the right way around but.. well, my drawing didn't really hold up to such methods. Odd how such a thing can highlight the flaws of a drawing to such a degree.

Small Post

So I drew a little self portrait. It's me looking very serious. I always feel guilty drawing when it isn't 100% related to my college work but, you know, whatever! I'm fairly pleased with how this turned out, probably because I move a whole lot less than my usual coffee shop subjects. Maybe I should find a life drawing thingy?

Anyway, I rather think I should add some colour to this. The plan is to photoshop it up some time in the future so look out for that boys and girls!

Work That Is Actually Current

Here we have some images created as part of the 'Manifesto' project. Our society is pretty chilled, mostly revolving around sleeping and reading and walks in the park and drinking tea etc. I haven't met up with the group in a while (very bad!) so I'm not sure exactly how these images will come together but I think it should be fairly easy? Yes?

I don't really have time to write about all these images individually but basically I think they're.. alright? I've found it hard to make them work without a clearly defined context; a result of my lack of communication with my group. This project is actually really close to deadline so I really have to crack on! Must find out the haps with everyone else!

A tree. Pen and ink.
Friendly boxers! Ink w/ watercolour
Just a man reading. Fountain pen.
Scrabble. Acrylic paint with fineline.
